Banana Nut Bread



  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 XL eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups mashed bananas (5 medium)
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts


  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 Tbs. flour
  • 2 Tbs. butter, cold
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts​


Preheat oven to 350​o F.
Grease and flour or spray 9" X 9" cake pan or large bread pan.


In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix well.  
Make well in center of mixture.
In a medium bowl, combine eggs, sugar, bananas and butter.
Add egg mixture all at once to flour mixture.  Stir just until moistened, batter should be lumpy.  Fold in nuts.
Spoon batter into prepared pan.
Sprinkle Topping (below) over batter.
Bake at 350o F for 45 - 60 minutes, until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.  (If necessary, cover loosely with foil last 15 minutes to prevent overbrowning.)
Wrap and store overnight before slicing.

Serves 16 - 20.


Mix brown sugar and flour in a small bowl.
Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add walnuts and mix well.
